Montreal artist Amery Sandford sitting on a grassy knoll at Sappyfest.

Amery Sandford is an animator, illustrator, musician, and printmaker based in Montreal, Canada.

She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, where she studied from 2010 to 2014. After completing her BFA, Amery moved to Newfoundland to do the Don Wright Scholarship residency at St. Michael's Printshop in St. John's. She became heavily involved in the local art scene and even served on the board of directors at Eastern Edge Gallery. It was there that she started to make gig posters for local shows and tried her hand as a guitarist in a few punk bands.

Her newfound interest in illustration and music led her to do an internship at Hatch Show Print in Nashville, Tennessee in 2016, a printshop situated within the Country Music Hall of Fame. During her time at Hatch, Amery got to work with clients and design and print posters the old-fashioned way, using letterpress typefaces and photo plates. She learned a great deal about design basics in a very hands-on way and also enjoyed exploring the city's honky-tonk bars and making many new friends along the way.

In 2019, Amery went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts degree in Print Media from Concordia University in Montreal. During her time at Concordia, she focused on producing large-scale print installations using screen printing and creating soft sculptures that incorporated fibres and recycled materials. Her MFA Thesis show Once in a Lifetime was exhibited at Atelier Circulaire, an artist run center that focuses on printed matter in Montreal.

After graduating, Amery worked as an artist assistant for notable Canadian illustrator Raymond Biesinger. She has since become a respected artist in the music industry, creating show posters, music videos, and other projects that showcase her fun and floppy illustration style. She also runs a small riso printing press out of her studio in the Mile End neighbourhood of Montreal called Amery Press.

In addition to her visual art practice, Amery is also an accomplished musician. She is a member of two bands: Born At Midnite with her collaborator David Carriere (TOPS, Marci), and a solo project called Alpen Glow.
